Haruki is one of the survivors in the group near the middle school that he and Kizuki used to go to. He is mostly annoyed at the lack of convenient amenities and dismissive at initiatives of long-term survival preparation, and still hopes that the outbreak is temporary and will be suppressed by the military forces. Haruki is the cousin of Okkun, who was in the same class as Ezaki and used to bully him. After Kowashi trains him to fight against zombies, Haruki gains a taste for killing — though he claims to prefer the living as targets.
