Eirene was a kind witch who lived centuries before the start of the story, in the area that would become the city of Deline, capital of the kingdom. After she died, her body was placed deep underground, which led to the area both overflowing with magic, and being protected from natural calamities. Her last wish was for her familiar, the dragon Krundel, to not hate humans.
